Cinema Inspiration...
I was watching the 1981 film Blow Out by Brian De Palma when I was inspired by his use of a split diopter lens that made that background and the foreground both in focus. It is such a useful tool in cinema to show more depth of a scene. I wanted to play off of that and do something unique for photography which is how I came across the Prism FX Centerfold Split Diopter lens. It differs from Palma's use because it only holds the center of an image in focus and makes the rest hazy. It is a very specific filter lens, maybe something you would use for a few images a session (similar to a prism) but I still found the result something magical. It takes some time to learn to use but this is what I came up with! We shot this at the Cleveland Art Museum on a cold spring day at dusk.
